We have now booked the airfares and have approved leave, so we no longer have any excuses as to why we shouldn’t make the time to take Quo Vadis to the Whitsunday’s. The decision has been made the D will tow the boat from Canberra to either Mackay (1,875 km) or to Airlie Beach (2,022 km). The final destination will depend on the weather – if the weather is good we will aim to launch at Mackay and sail north with the prevailing south-easterly’s, If not, we’ll tow the boat further north to Airlie Beach, and then launch, Irrespective, V and X will fly into Mackay on 20 September so the trip is now on!

Three Days Driving. Not sure which route yet – possibly the Pacific Highway (coast road – about 300km more) , longer but more infrastructure

Proposed Route – North east from Mackay, island hopping day sails, to Hamilton Island. Then a circumnavigation of Hook and Whitsunday Islands, returning to Hamilton Island to drop X and V off at airport. D to solo sail boat back to Airlie Beach. Then bus to Mackay to get car and trailer. Option to solo as far north as Bowen, weather & time permitting.

Distances 200nm??
